Bloomberg Launches Tools to Help Investors Assess Exposure to Low Carbon Transition Risks and Opportunities
Business and financial markets information service provider Bloomberg announced the launch of a series of new tools aimed at enabling investors to assess company and portfolio exposure to low carbon transition risks and opportunities.
According to Bloomberg, the new tools come as investors are increasingly looking to assess how business models and investment returns are being impacted by major shifts in transition-related capital, including a surge in global investment in low-carbon technologies to over $2 trillion in 2024 from only $160 billion in 2009, and double digit growth in new renewable energy project investment to over $380 billion in the first half of this year. With its expanded climate solutions suite, Bloomberg said that its new tools can enable investors to understand and compare company exposure to transition risks and opportunities, assess companies’ low carbon investments, review company targets and actions to evaluate the credibility of transition plans, and conduct revenue sensitivity analysis across climate scenarios and measure revenue risk across various time horizons.
The new solutions include a transition exposure revenues dataset, to identify the extent to which revenues of more than 100,000 companies are exposed to 23 different clean energy and fossil-fuel activities, and transition capex data, capturing reported capital investments in low-carbon technologies across energy, industry, transport and infrastructure t provide a forward-looking lens into corporate climate strategy.
Bloomberg also said that it has a Company Transition Capex Tool allowing users to go deeper on power generation activities using bottom-up, asset and financing-deal level data, especially among private companies, based on nearly 70,000 transactions involving over 23,000 corporate entities.
Jessica Bennett, Head of Transition Analytics at Bloomberg, said:
“Bloomberg’s enhanced transition offering provides deeper insights into how companies are exposed and adapting to the rise of low-carbon technologies. As this trend continues to evolve, we are committed to provide the analytics investors need to identify leaders and laggards, unlock value and mitigate risks.”
