UL Solutions Launches Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Solution
Applied safety science company provider UL Solutions announced the launch of a new software tool aimed at enabling companies to calculate product carbon footprint (PCF) and improve the quality of supplier data used in Scope 3 reporting.
The new software offering forms part of UL’s ULTRUS UL 360 ESG and sustainability data management software platform. According to UL, the new solution comes as companies face growing pressure to measure and disclose Scope 3 emissions associated with their products and supply chains including through new sustainability reporting regulations such as the EU’s CSRD and California’s SB 253.
According to UL, the new software is designed to simplify data acquisition and maintenance for procurement and sustainability teams, streamline calculation and sharing for suppliers, and deliver insights and strengthen confidence in PCF data. Key features highlighted by the company include AI-based interpretation of bills of materials, formulations and process data, calculation of “cradle‑to‑gate” PCFs aligned to the GHG Protocol, centralized views of supplier responses and data points, integration of product-level carbon data into reporting workflows, identification of missing inputs and potential data completeness gaps, and insights into Scope 3 emissions drivers and reduction opportunities.
Simin Zhou, Vice President and General Manager of Software at UL Solutions, said:
“New disclosure rules are raising the bar for Scope 3 data quality. But many organizations still struggle not only to collect supplier emissions data, but to use it consistently. Our AI-powered software brings structure to supplier inputs, turning them into consistent, audit-ready product carbon footprints companies can use for Scope 3 reporting and decisions.”
