Osapiens, GreenDot Partner on Sustainable Packaging Compliance Solution
Germany-based sustainability software company osapiens and recycling-focused services provider GreenDot announced the launch of a new partnership aimed at deploying an AI‑powered Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) solution to enable companies to meet the data needs required to comply with new EU packaging regulations.
Announced at osapiens’ “sos.26 Summit,” the new solution follows the adoption by the EU of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which comes into effect this year, introducing a series of new rules aimed at significantly reducing packaging waste in the EU, setting stricter standards for how packaging must be designed and recycled, and including a requirement for all packaging placed on the market to be designed to be 100% recyclable by 2030.
According to the companies, the new solution will address key challenges facing companies in meeting the data and reporting requirements of the new regulation, by factors including factors including each European country still running its own registration and reporting system, and packaging data often held by suppliers, rather than by the companies themselves.
Laurent Auguste, CEO of GreenDot, said:
“Companies are increasingly concerned about the complexity and cost to administrate EPR compliance under the PPWR. Making the circular economy a reality at scale requires more tracking of material and transparency but, equally, it requires to strive to make each step of the value chain more competitive and optimized.”
The companies said that the new solution will combine GreenDot’s expertise in EPR compliance, packaging licensing, and producer responsibility schemes with the capabilities of ospaiens’ AI-powered platform, osapiens HUB, to pull in key packaging details such as materials, weight, and recyclability, automatically determine what a company owes in each European country and help to achieve the optimal tariff structure across European markets, and connecting to national registration systems and EPR schemes to handle country-specific reporting requirements introduced under the PPWR.
Stefan Wawrzinek, Co-Founder and Chairman at osapiens, said:
“EPR compliance under the PPWR is becoming one of the most complex cross-border challenges for producers and brand owners across Europe. With GreenDot, we are combining the regulatory depth and market reach that this challenge requires with the AI-powered platform infrastructure to solve it at scale – giving companies the solution they need to manage this complexity efficiently and with confidence.”
