Engie, Prometheus to Co-Locate Data Centers and Renewable Energy in Texas
Engie North America announced a new agreement with sustainable hyperscale data center developer Prometheus Hyperscale to co-locate data centers at renewable and battery storage energy facilities along in Texas.
Prometheus Hyperscale was launched last year, with a commitment to deliver infrastructure that is both scalable and environmentally responsible, by integrating cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices into its data center designs. Among the company’s key innovations is its proprietary liquid cooling system, which dramatically outperforms traditional air cooling methods, reducing facility energy consumption by up to 50% and eliminating water consumption. The company also aims to power its data centers with 100% renewable energy through strategic partnerships. The company appointed former bp CEO Bernard Looney as Chairman of the Board of Directors in November 2024.
Looney said:
“Prometheus is committed to developing sustainable, next generation digital infrastructure for AI. We cannot do this alone – ENGIE’s existing assets and expertise as a major player in the global energy transition make them a perfect partner as we work to build data centers that meet market needs today and tomorrow.”
Under the new agreement, Prometheus will deploy its high-efficiency, liquid-cooled data center infrastructure alongside Engie’s renewable and battery storage assets along the Texas I-35 corridor.
The first co-located sites from the new collaboration are anticipated to go live in 2026, and more locations planned from 2027 onward.
David Carroll, Chief Renewables Officer and SVP, ENGIE North America, said:
“ENGIE is focused on delivering solutions to meet the growing demand for power across the U.S., with a strategic focus on enabling data center expansion. By leveraging our robust portfolio of wind, solar, and battery storage assets — combined with our commercial and industrial supply capabilities and deep trading expertise — we’re providing integrated energy solutions that support scalable, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure.”
