ERM Acquires Climate, Energy Transition Consultancy Energetics
Sustainability advisory firm ERM announced today an agreement to acquire Australia-based climate risk and energy transition consultancy Energetics, aimed at enhancing its growth in the Asia Pacific region.
Founded in 1984, Energetics partners with large businesses, investors and governments, helping them respond to issues including climate change, decarbonization, and the energy transition. With a team of approximately 100 people, the firm provides customized offerings including the development of climate resiliency strategies, providing data on climate risks and renewable energy transition options, helping companies work toward net zero, and tracking power purchase agreements (PPA) for renewable energy deals.
Energetics CEO Dr Mary Stewart said:
“Energetics first opened its doors for business 40 years ago. Since then, we’ve worked across every sector of Australia’s economy and developed long-standing relationships advising some of the country’s largest businesses. Energetics’ alumni can be found leading sustainability, climate and energy risk management teams here and overseas.”
According to ERM, the acquisition will help the firm enhance its ability to support clients with strategic advice and practical on-the-ground implementation across Australia and the broader Asia Pacific region. The transaction follows ERM’s 2022 acquisition of Australian climate consultancy, Point Advisory.
The announcement builds on a series of ESG consulting and advisory acquisitions by ERM, including Latin America-focused sustainable finance and ESG advisory firm NINT, climate, clean energy, and water resiliency-focused advisory firm Coho, marine planning and environmental consultancy MarineSpace, and specialist energy consultancy and low-carbon technology solutions firm Element Energy, among several others.
Matt Klein, ERM Global Co-Head Corporate Sustainability and Climate Change, said:
“Bringing together Energetics and ERM creates Australia’s most comprehensive sustainability and climate change advisory firm. This acquisition is critical to the growth of ERM in the region and is in direct response to Australia’s plan to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.”
Energetics will join ERM’s climate change and corporate sustainability practice.
