Meta Inks Solar Energy Purchase Agreement with Zelestra in Texas
Meta announced that it has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Madrid-based Zelestra for the production of 176 MW of energy from a new solar project in Texas.
Meta, the owner of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has set a target to reach net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2030 and is one of the world’s largest corporate buyers of renewable energy.
The companies said that the new solar PPA will support Meta’s efforts to add new generation to the grid and to continue matching their operations with 100% clean and renewable energy.
The new agreement marks the latest in a series of clean energy deals between the two companies, expanding the contracted capacity of PPAs to approximately 1.2 GW across seven U.S. solar projects, all of which are scheduled to be operational by 2028. Zelestra recently announced full commercial operations at the first project under the partnership to come online, the 81 MWdc Jasper County Solar Project in Indiana.
Phil North, Zelestra U.S. CEO, said:
“Our clean energy collaboration with Meta is gathering momentum across the U.S. We are delighted to welcome full operations at Jasper County and the start of construction at two further major projects, while also closing another major agreement that will enable the construction of Skull Creek in Texas. Thanks to our forward-looking partnership, nearly 1.2 GWdc of new clean solar power will soon be operational in the U.S.”
