Trane Commits to Reduce Product Lifecycle GHG Emissions by 40% by 2030
HVAC and climate control solutions company Trane Technologies announced today a new commitment to reduce embodied carbon – greenhouse gas emissions associated with a product’s lifecycle, including the extraction of raw materials, manufacturing, transportation and recycling of materials and products – by 40% by 2030.
As part of its efforts to target its embodied carbon, Trane said that it will partner with suppliers of materials including steel, aluminum, copper and refrigerants, in addition to continuing to incorporate circular design criteria into its product development projects. The announcement follows agreements by Trane in 2022 with Nucor and U.S. Steel to purchase low-carbon steel covering 20% of Trane’s annual steel purchases.
According to Trane, the new announcement builds on the company’s existing 2030 commitments, including its “Gigaton Challenge” to reduce customer greenhouse gas emissions by 1 billion metric tons, on a 2019 basis.
