APG Invests €500 Million in Sustainable European Infrastructure with Equitix
Dutch pension fund manager APG, on behalf of its pension fund client ABP, and infrastructure investment manager Equitix announced the launch of a new investment partnership of up to €500 million, targeting essential infrastructure across the UK and continental Europe.
APG and Equitix said that the partnership’s investment strategy will focus on supporting infrastructure that aims to deliver long-term value while supporting sustainability objectives, including the energy transition, resilient infrastructure and access to essential services across Europe.
Hugh Crossley, Chief Executive Officer of Equitix, said:
“Over many years, we have built a strong platform across Europe, combining local presence and expertise with a disciplined approach to infrastructure investment. As we continue to expand our footprint, this partnership strengthens our ability to identify and invest in opportunities that support economic growth, the energy transition and communities across the region.”
Under the partnership, APG has committed €400 million to a Strategic Managed Account (SMA) with Equitix, with a potential further €100 million investment in the Equitix Infrastructure Growth fund. Investments are expected to span a number of specific sector themes, including rolling stock, offshore transmission and water infrastructure investments.
The companies also highlighted a shared approach to sustainable investing, and added that select investments will focus on sectors which are impact-driven and conducive to supporting long-term sustainability policy goals.
The agreement marks APG’s first investment partnership with Equitix, bringing together APG’s long-term investment approach with Equitix’s infrastructure expertise, local market knowledge and investment origination capabilities, the companies said.
Arjan Reinders, Head of Infrastructure Europe at APG, said:
“Through this partnership with Equitix, we are creating a tailored platform to invest in essential infrastructure across the UK and Europe on behalf of ABP. The Strategic Managed Account, together with the contemplated investment in the Equitix Infrastructure Growth Fund broadens our access to attractive opportunities across water infrastructure, offshore transmission, rolling stock and other essential infrastructure, while supporting our long-term investment and sustainability objectives.”
