Arcadia Acquires Clean Energy Procurement Platform RPD Energy
Energy management platform Arcadia announced the acquisition of RPD Energy, which markets renewable electricity primarily to large commercial and industrial customers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Launched in 2014, Washington D.C.-based Arcadia provides energy data and management solutions, including community solar subscriptions, enabling homes and businesses to access renewable energy without needing to install solar panels by connecting to local solar farms. It also offers solutions for energy developers including customer churn replacement, allocations management, billing and remittance, utility data exchange, customer service and engagement, and reporting.
According to Arcadia, the acquisition will help the company to expand its services among businesses and enterprises, and enable it to expand its Energy Procurement Advisory offering across the US. The Advisory service helps companies with sustainability goals, purchasing power from renewable generators, developing behind-the-meter solar and storage solutions, and with RECs, offsets, and other data-driven energy management solutions. With the acquisition, Arcadia said, it can assist customers with assessment and execution on all energy options, both onsite and offsite, tailored to an individual meter’s load and the markets they operate in.
Kiran Bhatraju, founder and CEO of Arcadia, said:
“As we enter a world of energy scarcity, corporate buyers are increasingly looking for custom procurement solutions that achieve energy security and sustainability goals. The old model is broken — reliant on manual processes and narrow solutions that lack data-driven insights. By combining RPD Energy’s innovative approach with Arcadia’s technology platform and community solar program, we can deliver smarter, more comprehensive procurement solutions to our enterprise customers.”
Founded in 2014, Houston-based RPD Energy facilitates the sourcing, contracting and delivery of renewable energy to businesses, working with customers to develop competitively priced supply contracts for green power. RPD sources the energy directly from renewable generators and arranges for physical dispatch into the grid. RPD’s customer list includes blue-chip corporations such as Iron Mountain, Adobe, Intuit, and UPS.
Through the acquisition, Rohit Marwaha, EVP of Product Development and Supply at RPD Energy, will lead Arcadia’s onsite and offsite energy procurement advisory. Marwaha brings 20 years of customer solutions and supply structuring experience, Arcadia said.
Former Constellation Energy commodities executive, Max Duckworth, who served as RPD Energy’s board chair, said:
“We’re delighted to be acquired by Arcadia, who we regard as the ideal organization to take RPD Energy’s carbon-free energy (CFE) offerings to the next level. By integrating RPD Energy’s structuring know-how and partner network into Arcadia’s industry-leading solutions platform, thousands of businesses will be empowered with smarter procurement strategies that optimize across their energy security, cost savings, and sustainability goals.”
