Professional services company Cognizant announced today a new goal to source 100% renewable energy for its facilities – including owned and leased facilities – by 2026.

In order to reach its new target, Cognizant said that it will engage enter into new power purchase agreements with clean energy developers, engage facility property owners, and expand its use of onsite solar energy.

According to the company, the renewable energy plan will support Cognizant’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction commitments. Last year, Cognizant unveiled goals to reach net zero emissions by 2030, and to reduce emissions across its operations and supply chain by 90% by 2040. The company has also pledged to develop solutions to enable its clients to reduce their own carbon footprints, reduce waste, and foster sustainable product development.

Brian Humphries, Chief Executive Officer at Cognizant, said:

“We recognize that businesses are interdependent with the world’s social and environmental systems. In the medium and long run, social and environmental issues become financial issues. Businesses can thrive only if society prospers and the natural environment is protected.”
