Daimler Buses Pledges to Offer Battery, Hydrogen-Based CO2-Neutral Vehicles in Every Segment by 2030
Till Oberwörder, Head of Daimler Buses announced today that Daimler Buses is planning to offer CO2-neutral vehicles based on batteries and hydrogen in every segment by 2030, with an initial focus on the core markets of Europe and Latin America.
Daimler Buses stated that the only way to offer tailored zero emission solutions for the needs of its customers is to focus on both battery-electric and hydrogen-based technologies, in line with the dual-track strategy of its parent company Daimler Truck.
The company is aiming for only CO2-neutral new city buses to be sold in Europe by 2030, and only CO2-neutral new vehicles to be offered in the core European market by 2039. Additionally, the company is planning to launch the first all-electric inter-city bus from 2025, and coaches with hydrogen-based fuel cell drive from the end of this decade.
Starting next year, Daimler Buses is also planning to equip its previously purely battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro city bus with a hydrogen-based fuel cell as a range extender, adding a vehicle with a range of up to 400 kilometers to its all-electric product portfolio in the city-bus segment. Additionally, from the end of this year, the eCitaro, and the eCitaro Range Extender will be offered with high-energy lithium-ion batteries.
In Latin America and markets in the Oceania region, the company is also planning to start the production of the first purely battery-electric bus chassis this year. The “eO500U” chassis, with a range of about 250, kilometers will be manufactured in Brazil and it will be largely based on the technology of the eCitaro.
