Energy Optimization Software Startup Companion.Energy Raises $9 Million
Energy optimization software startup Companion.energy announced today that it has raised €7.8 million (USD$9 million) in a seed funding round, with proceeds aimed at enhancing and expanding its platform enabling large industrial and commercial enterprises to manage energy as renewable penetration and industrial electrification advance.
Founded in 2022 by Thomas Vyncke and Jonas Verstraeten, Companion.energy provides solutions aimed at providing commercial and industrial users with transparency into their energy economics, and to optimize workflows to improve their contract mix. The company’s platform connects energy contracts, operational systems, and distributed energy assets into a single optimization layer that continuously forecasts demand, models market exposure, and automates energy decisions in real time.
According to Companion.energy, its platform currently manages more than 2 TW of annual energy consumption and production across customer portfolios, representing approximately €500 million in annual energy spending and energy revenues. The company added that the platform supports more than 200 MW of distributed energy assets, including solar PV, wind, battery storage, electric boilers, and EV charging infrastructure, helping customers reduce energy costs by 10% to 30% through autonomous real-time optimization.
The company said that the new capital will be used to deepen the platform’s multi-asset, multi-market optimization capabilities, and expand commercially across Europe, starting with Germany and Spain.
Thomas Vyncke, co-founder, Companion.energy said:
“As penetration of renewables increases and industrial demand becomes more electrified, electricity markets are becoming significantly more volatile and operationally complex. Energy prices that once moved seasonally now fluctuate in real time. At the same time, enterprises are deploying growing fleets of batteries, solar installations, EV charging infrastructure, and electrified industrial systems. Most companies still manage this environment through fragmented tooling, spreadsheets, and static procurement processes, but they need a system that runs and optimizes energy operations continuously.”
The new funding round was led by Realyze Ventures and Pi Labs, with participation from Asterion Ventures alongside existing investors.
Dhruv Gupta, Principal at Pi Labs said:
“Enterprise energy management is moving from static procurement and reporting toward 24×7 real-time optimisation. Large enterprises spending tens of millions annually on energy still rely heavily on spreadsheets, dashboards and manual workflows. Companion has built a deeply technical AI platform that fundamentally changes software from a recommendation engine to a system of execution.”
