JetBlue Launches Program Enabling Corporate Customers to Reduce, Report Travel Emissions
JetBlue announced today the launch of the JetBlue Sustainable Travel Partners program, rolling out a suite of services offered to corporate customers to reduce and assess the emissions footprint of their travel.
Aviation has come under scrutiny as a significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, responsible for 2-3% of global emissions, and often constitutes a significant portion of many businesses’ scope 3 emissions, or those beyond the companies’ direct control. With the new program, JetBlue aims to help enable businesses to meet their own corporate sustainability targets, which increasingly include scope 3 emissions reductions.
Sara Bogdan, director of sustainability and environmental social governance, JetBlue, said:
“As our business customers return to the skies, they increasingly have been asking for our support in meeting their net zero and sustainable travel goals.”
Resources offered under the program include emissions reductions through purchase of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) certificates, complimentary carbon offsetting on all domestic flights operated by JetBlue, and personalized travel data and analysis for emissions reporting. The program also provides consultation and tools for sustainable travel decisions, including helping customers set emissions reduction targets associated with their business travel and recommending actions to promote more sustainable travel decisions to achieve these goals.
Launch customers for the new initiative include Biogen, Deloitte, ICF, and Salesforce. Scott Corwin, Managing Director and US Leader for Sustainability and Climate Change at Deloitte LLP, said:
“Deloitte is committed to driving responsible climate choices. By coming together with JetBlue, we are another step closer to reducing our travel emissions and achieving a more sustainable future.”
The launch of the program follows the introduction last year by JetBlue of several new sustainability initiatives, including goals to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040, and convert 10% of its total fuel use to SAF and adding a link between executive compensation and ESG goals. Over the past few months, JetBlue has announced a number of deals to source sustainable aviation fuel, and the company said that it is on track to meet its 2030 SAF goal ahead of schedule.
Bogdan added:
“JetBlue has extensive expertise in decarbonizing air travel thanks to our early and leading commitments and supply agreements. We’re now extending these options to our corporate customers so that, for the first time, they can play a direct role in enhancing the sustainability of their air travel when flying with JetBlue. We’re proud to introduce the Sustainable Travel Partners program to help our business customers set and achieve their sustainable travel targets.”
