L’OCCITANE Launches Biodiversity Strategy, Targets Sustainable Sourcing, Plastic Reduction
Natural cosmetics and well-being products manufacturer and retailer L’OCCITANE Group announced today the guiding principles of its biodiversity strategy, outlining how the company plans to mitigate its impacts on nature and create a positive impact.
According to L’OCCITANE Group, the company intends to develop a program of actions reaching its entire value chain, extending beyond its own commercial ecosystem. The company stated that the new strategy accelerates its actions and gives it the resources to act in line with its vision for a ‘nature-positive’ world.
The major steps outlined by the company begins with understanding its impact. L’OCCITANE Group said that it conducted a biodiversity analysis revealing that its main L’OCCITANE en Provence brand primary impact relates to the sourcing of natural raw materials and packaging. The company pledged to broaden the scope of its assessment by 2022.
Key actions under the biodiversity strategy include a series of 2025 commitments to have all of the company’s plant-based ingredients come from sources that work in biodiversity-positive ways, reduce the amount of plastic used for packaging for the L’OCCITANE en Provence brand by 10%, and to farm 100% of key raw ingredients in line with sustainable agriculture principles.
L’OCCITANE Group Chief Sustainability Officer Adrien Geiger said:
“This biodiversity strategy is our first contribution to a more comprehensive nature-positive ambition. To help us along the way, we must rely on science to ensure that our actions match our impacts and the planet’s limits”.
