TotalEnergies Provides 100% Renewable Fuel to Power all 24 Hours of Le Mans Race Cars
TotalEnergies announced today it will supply the fuel for the first ever 24 Hours of Le Mans motorsports endurance race in which each car will be powered with 100% renewable fuel.
The race cars will be using TotalEnergies’ recently unveiled Excellium Racing 100 fuel. The zero-oil fuel is produced from agricultural waste, including residues from the wine industry, such as wine lees and grape pomace, and blended with ETBE, a byproduct made from ethanol produced at TotalEnergies’ Feyzin refinery near Lyon, France.
According to TotalEnergies, Excellium 100 will provide at least 65% reduction in CO2 emissions over its lifecycle.
Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, said:
“As Automobile Club de l’Ouest’s partner, TotalEnergies is proud to supply the competitors of the 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans with a 100% renewable fuel. It’s a bit of a revolution for automobile racing and a tangible sign of TotalEnergies strategy to help its customers and partners get to net zero. Biofuels have an important role to play in moving the transportation industry forward by immediately reducing its CO2 emissions.”
TotalEnergies also outlined plans to deploy a mobile hydrogen filling station this year at Le Mans to supply a new hydrogen prototype that will take part in the Road to Le Mans support races.
