Global consultancy Bain & Company announced today that Debra (Debbie) McCoy has joined the firm as a partner in its global Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility practice. In her new role, McCoy will advise a range of global, cross-sector clients on implementing operational decisions and strategic investing tactics that use stakeholder, governance and environmental considerations to produce enduring results.

Jenny Davis-Peccoud, co-head of Bain’s global Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility practice, said:

“Debbie has been a respected leader in sustainability long before the terms ‘sustainability’ and ‘impact’ held the weight they do today. She brings multiple vantage points, through her expertise in investing as well as her experience working across the private sector, academia, nonprofits and government. This will make her a valuable addition to Bain’s longstanding global network of sustainability experts.”

Bain’s Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility practice helps clients embed sustainability in their core strategies, across a full spectrum of critical sustainability issues, from climate change and plastics recycling to the development of sustainable food systems and participation in ESG investing. Bain has been ramping its sustainability capabilities and offerings, including the recent launch of its Singapore-based Global Sustainability Innovation Center, aiming to help the firm’s corporate clients pursue the opportunities arising from the economic and societal potential of the green economy.

Prior to joining Bain, McCoy worked for six years at investment giant BlackRock, most recently serving as Managing Director, Head of Sustainable Investing for the firm’s Systematic Investing team, with responsibility for building and launching ESG and sustainable investing funds, setting a research agenda to guide new ESG and sustainability insights regarding companies being considered for investment, and driving global commercial adoption of sustainability capabilities. Before joining BlackRock, she served as a White House Fellow, appointed by the President of the United States. The appointment marks a return for McCoy, who began her career as a Consultant at Bain.

McCoy said:

“I have long admired Bain & Company’s Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility practice for accelerating results against business’s most significant opportunities and challenges. I am delighted to bring my global experience back home to the firm where I started my career to help Bain’s clients address the increasingly complex realities of sustainable investing and operations.”
